LED Flashlight – repurposing is really possible

by Elle JoeyJune 26, 2012

LED flashlights can be repurposed and as such be used for purposes other than those that they were earlier intended for.

As technology takes a leap into a feature not anticipated years back, LED flashlight is one of the works that it has to offer. Conventionally, they are aimed to offer light and hence aid vision in darkened areas. However, multiple innovations have proven that a LED flashlight can be re-purposed for functions other than purely light sourcing.

Firstly, LED flashlight can be turned into a laser pointer. This process often involves bringing together a functional mini LED flashlight, a DVD burning tool that you do not intend to use in future, as well as several miniature tools like the jewelers' screwdrivers. The conversion process begins removal of the laser diodefrom the DVD burner. Once this is done, it may be appropriate to install the diode in a specialized case. This largely depends on the LED-technology flashlight that you plan on using. A little soldering may be necessary in order to connect the electrical system of the flashlight to the laser diode that is being used. The last process involves sliding the laser diode into the flashlight’s case.
Other than acting as a flashlight, the LED flashlight can be turned into lamps. This is a relatively easy process despite the fact that it needs some level of patience and wangling. In order to successfully turn the flashlight into a lamp for reading, a lampshade will be required, some supporting base, the flashlight, as well as a circular mirror which perfectly fits into the lampshade hole. This does not require expensive material; you can find some cheap materials in any of the local stores in your locality. Resale stores are the most appropriate.

Creativity is a necessity when making the lamp. It is therefore important to come up with a means of suspending the LED flashlight appropriately. The flashlight is also attached to the base. For those who do not mind having a smaller lamp, it may be possible to have the flashlight balanced without addition of a base. Lastly, a mirror is affixed to the lampshade top in a way that it produces a downward beam from the flashlight. Also of interest is the fact that the LED bulbs functions without generating heat and hence there is a less likelihood that fire is started.

Other than the aforementioned, the LED lamp can be repurposed into a Collar-Mounted Safety Light. These can be used by both cyclists and pedestrians. Similarly, for persons who are worried that their pets might get hit when taking late night walks, it is a great idea to create collar light using the LED flashlight. The most difficult part is being able to figure out a way of attaching the torch to your pet’s collar. A rubber band of good strength can be used to exert firm attachment to the flashlight. Upon securely attaching the flashlight to the clip, the pet’s collar can be simply attached to the clip. However, it is important to point out that for person’s who utilize retractable dog leashes, it may be much easier to simply use glue to attach the LED flashlight to the handle’s top.
Well, if you own a LED flashlight that you have little or no use for, its time you turned it into something else and make it useful.
